So yesterday I was invited to an event at the residence of an ambassador. Of course, my first thought was "what should I wear?" I've been to one of these before, and I remember the dress being either professional or cocktail-ish. It seemed like the crowd didn't know which was more appropriate.

My go-to item for these kinds of work/professional events is the sheath dress. It's appropriate for both work and cocktail hours, and women look just fabulous in them. Here's what I think I'm wearing to my event:

Bag / Shoes / Dress / Earrings / Cuff / Eyeshadow / Blush / Nailpolish / Lip Gloss

Do you ever wish you could just wear sweats to work? That was me this morning. These kinds of days make working from home sound so great. But, alas, we must look pulled together, and I think this outfit is a great compromise. Super wide-leg trousers, anyone?

I have to say that I'm a bit of a Jekyl and Hyde. During work hours I prefer a more classic look, but after hours I like to express my wild side. But you have to agree with me that there are some things you just can't do. It's sad, but I'll never be able to tune into my Jersey roots and get a leopard print tattoo on the side of my face. And, although Vogue says I should, I can't get neon colored highlights. WAIT!!!! Yes I can...Thanks to Lauren Conrad, I can conjure up the likes of my boy band favorites and frost the tips of my hair with white chalk, or pink, or blue, or purple. Even better, I can wash it out the next day and look like your typical career-driven professional woman. Ok, I'm getting a bit giddy now. I'll stop.

But not before I tell you how to do it yourself!

Sidewalk Chalk (The huge kind)

Water

Flat Iron

1. Choose your sidewalk chalk colors.

2. Wet the tips of the sidewalk chalk you'll be using. 

3. Color small chunks of your hair with the chalk in a downwards motion. Start from the middle of your strands for a more modern look.

4. Set your color in with a hot flat iron.

5. Wash out Sunday night!

It's been a while, hasn't it? I realized today that my last post was over two weeks ago. Call it a lack of inspiration, if you like, or maybe just a lack of motivation. But today it all ends! Hello blog...buh-bye ugly, profane P word (yeah, I mean you, PROCRASTINATION). And I'd like to begin this week with a B word: BROOCHES!! They're all over the place, and I love them -- some granny like, oozing in bedazzled goodness, others modern, simple, and sleek. I never thought I'd say this, but brooches are making a come back! (Although, how can they make a come back if they've never really been present during my lifetime?) Here are some of my favorites. Feel free to jazz up your boring, black work suit with one of these beauties for under $25:
